Saliha Cambaz works at Ümitkoy Anatolian High School. She has a very big family with her two grandchildren. Everybody loves her. She has a very interesting story to contribute our project.

When Saliha was a child, she lived with her father, mother sister and brother in a village in Amasya. Their summer was very busy with collecting the tobacco they grew in their fields. They worked especially at night time because the weather is so hot during the day time so the lines of tobaccos would stick each other. Their mother spent her time at home to cook for the other family members who were busy with collecting the tobaccos in the field during the night time.

That summer, Saliha was 8 years old and there was a lot of work on the fields. One night, when she was collecting tobaccos with her sister, her brother was in the nearby corn field. Her father was busy with the lines of tobaccos near the border of their field. It was a silent and starry night without the moonlight. Saliha was thristy. She went to the bower which had an ancient look and had an iron fence around. It became a point for the family members to leave their belongings and to have some rest.

She poured a glass full of cold water from the pot and drank it. Suddenly she came across something very familiar to the pictures in the science coursebook at school. When she looked it at again closely, she realized that it is a piece of bone, no , no, pieces of bones and skulls of human beings everywhere on the ground! They were all around with the golden leaves of trees. She was frozen. And she didn’t hear that her sister was calling out her.

Her sister was in the bower in less than a minute to check if Saliha was ok. Saliha started shouting with fear when her sister arrived. Her sister couldn’t understand what’s wrong at first until she saw the bones and skulls on the ground too. She also started screaming with fear.
Two girls ran away and they were terrified. They thought that there were ghosts all around. The girls told their parents that they saw bones and skulls in the bower. Their father went to the bower and checked if the story was true. It was true. He called the gendarme (the local police). In a very short time at that night, a lot of people arrived at the bower.

For a few days, they worked on the area. They didn’t let anyone step into the bower. Finally they made a statement about the bones and skulls of human beings. They said that the bones and skulls belonged to the people who lived about more than 100 years ago. They died from usual causes. It was a family graveyard. They came out to the surface because of geological movements of the ground for the years. They took the bones and skulls to somewhere else and buried them.

Saliha and her sister, who saw the ruins of dead people, always remained attentive to see the ghosts of the dead people when they worked on the field at midnight every summer.
